Dr. Ron Dutcher, grew up in Huntington, Indiana but came to Japan 15 years ago to work as a consultant for several Japanese computer and medical companies including Macnica and Shimadzu. While building a digital X-ray database system, he met the most lovely lady surgeon who soon became his wife.

Dutcher owned and operated Konuma Orthopedics for five years, which he sold in 2003 to be able to dedicate himself to his six-year-old son's rehabilitation full time.

Dutcher is distantly related to Paul Wirt, one of the great early pen makers and after hearing stories of Wirt during his childhood, he became interested in fountain pens as an adult. Dutcher is the founder of Kamakura Pens and is an expert in Paul Wirt history and Japanese pens.
